As women we are constantly bombarded with images of women that look skinny, toned with “perfect” bodies. But what is a perfect body? Our bodies are incredible for what they allow us to do and we really need to learn to love them more. Worryingly this issue of body confidence is targeting younger ages constantly too.
We are excited to invite 3 super inspritational women to share their stories; from suffering with eating disorders to battling breast cancer and losing both breasts and being able to continue in everyday life.
Our SheTalks series will address many topics, boundaries and challenges us women face in the modern day. This event will feature incredible women who have learnt to love their body and appreciate it for what it is.
Meet the speakers
Catherine Quinlan- Fitness Instructor and Breast Cancer Survivor
Cathie Q – CQs Fitness Following a bilateral mastectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis at just 29 Cathie has struggled with negative body image. A fitness instructor of around 10 years and mother of a teenage daughter she sees this trend in women on a daily basis. “Women are sold the idea that their entire worth is tied up in how they look, and none of us is immune to it. My aim is to encourage the women in my classes to focus on fitness and strength not weight or image issues.”
Zoe John- Talks overcoming an eating disorder and body positivity
Zoe has a passion for speaking for awareness of mental health and eating disorders. She tells her story of suffering and recovering as an ambassador for the UKs eating disorder charity: B-eat. As well as an ambassador, Zoe is a PhD student at Cardiff University and an avid American football and Australian rules football player at local and national levels. Now also in two training squads for Great Britain, Zoe hopes her experiences and story emphasises this: anything is possible when you recover.
Katie Victoria Hulland- Former Beauty Paegant and Yoga Instructor/ Blogger
Katie has struggled with eating and her weight for about 10 years, until about 3 years ago when she realised THERE IS BLOODY MORE TO LIFE! She quit dieting, threw away her scales and started LIVING!
Learning to love herself and her body hasn’t been EASY! But it HAS been WORTH IT!
Katie spent 8 years in the modelling and Beauty Pageant world, surrounded by some of the most beautiful and slim women around! And guess what …even they weren’t happy! She had Yo-Yo dieted for years, tried every diet under the sun, exercised to punish myself and always ended up as square one!
She wants to encourage women to look after themselves, learn to love themselves and treat their bodies like a home! For themselves and future generations!
